COVID-19
From a Simple Idea to a Movement of Hope.
Ahaara India was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 with one simple purpose — to stand beside people when they needed support the most.
What began with food distribution and emergency relief to 25 blind families in Pallavanur has grown into a community-driven humanitarian movement reaching tribal communities, government schools, women, children, and vulnerable families across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
We believe in empowering communities through education, dignity, healthcare, infrastructure, leadership development, and sustainable social impact. Every initiative is powered entirely by people who believe that meaningful change begins with collective action.

2021
Founded During COVID
Food and grocery distribution to 25 blind families in Pallavanur, Chennai. Solar light project for a 13-house tribal community announced. First community project at Jeeva Nagar — school enrollment and essentials.
2022
Official Registration & Expansion
Ahaara officially registered. First solar lights installed. Tambaram rural school renovated and painted. Kannigapuram education program launched. Menstrual hygiene campaigns started with medical students.
2023
3 Years & National Recognition
3rd anniversary milestone. Ayra Krishna named Social Women of the Year. Ongoing school bag drives, solar expansion, and tribal community outreach across multiple Chennai outskirt locations.
2024
Project DEEPAM & Saree Marathon
Project DEEPAM launched — solar lights installed in Kanchipuram tribal community. Saree Marathon 2024 Chennai partnership. Mambakkam tribal hygiene drive. 4th anniversary — solar to individual homes announced.
2025
Karnataka Expansion
Bhatkal school work — Muttali and Mudbhatkal government schools (Ayra's hometown). Biggest menstrual hygiene drive ever conducted. Emergency tarpaulin distributions. Marathi tribal kids from Bhatkal reached.
2026
5th Anniversary & Milestone
5th anniversary celebrated at Bhatkal, Karnataka. School bag distributions in Nooj. 1,000+ tribal kids reached for education milestone confirmed. Continued programs across both states.

Ayra Krishna
Founder
Ayra Krishna founded Ahaara India during the COVID-19 second wave with a simple mission — to ensure that no community is left behind during times of need. What began as emergency food and relief distribution has evolved into a humanitarian movement focused on education, tribal development, women empowerment, healthcare, disaster relief, and sustainable community development.
Originally from Bhatkal, Karnataka and based between Mumbai and Chennai, Ayra combines her public platform as an actor and model with grassroots social impact. She personally leads Ahaara's field initiatives — visiting communities, interacting with beneficiaries, and working alongside volunteers to ensure every project creates meaningful, long-term change.
Her vision is to build an organization that not only responds to immediate needs but also empowers communities with opportunities, dignity, and hope. Social Women of the Year awardee.
Amrish Selvarasan
Co-Founder
Amrish Selvarasan is the co-founder of Ahaara India and the driving force behind its field operations, community engagement, and program execution. A professionally trained Medical and Psychiatric Social Worker, he specializes in community development, tribal welfare, public health, and social research.
His experience includes research with the National Human Rights Commission of India on girl child education across South India, advocacy for the rights of tribal communities through Madras Christian College's Field Action Programme, and collaboration with government officials on community development initiatives.
He has also contributed as a Political Consultant, leading large-scale public outreach and policy implementation projects across Tamil Nadu. Featured in The New Indian Express for his community development work. As Ayra puts it: “Behind every successful woman there is a brother who supports unconditionally.”

Social Women of the Year — Ahaara India by Ayra Krishna
Ayra Krishna was recognised as Social Women of the Year for founding Ahaara India. The award highlighted Ahaara as the reason so many tribal communities in Chennai now have lights, and so many first-generation children from tribal families are going to schools and colleges today.
College Project Ends Tribals' Struggle for Potable Water
Amrish Selvarasan was featured in The New Indian Express for providing a drinking water tank to a tribal hamlet of 30 families in Chengalpattu district — a community that had gone three generations without potable water. He also wrote to the Minister of Tribal Affairs and raised the issue with the local panchayat.
